Moneta Plant - Environmental Excellence Award

The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association honored the winners of the 2015 Commitment to Environmental Excellence Awards at its ConcreteWorks Conference & Expo held in San Antonio in late September. Cosponsored by Concrete Products, the awards program offers producers national recognition for protecting the environment and maintaining sound environmental management practices.

"These plants have demonstrated that they are the 'best of the best' when it comes to being good stewards of the environment," says Gary Mullings, NRMCA senior vice president of operations and compliance.

NRMCA President Robert Garbini adds that "This is another example of the ready mixed concrete industry's goal of continuous environmental excellence. These winning entries clearly demonstrate the incorporation of environmental management systems into their plants' operations."

Sustainability - We Are Committed to the Environment.

The Green-Star Program of the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA) has been designed by the Environmental Task Group of the Operations, Environmental and Safety Committee (NRMCA-OES) as a means to support the efforts of the ready mixed concrete industry towards environmental excellence, through the recognition of the use of Environmental Management Systems (EMS) as a tool for environmental benchmarking and continual improvement, and as a means to recognize those who adhere to essential principals of the environmental and sustainability movement of our industry.

Green-Star - We Are Committed to NRMCA's Initiative.

The NRMCA Green-Star Program will serve as a useful mechanism to recognize those within the industry who have achieved or are actively working towards environmental excellence and/or a demonstrable reduction of environmental impacts, following the principals of sustainability. It will also provide a formal opportunity for the recognition of those companies through a rigorous, structured certification process capable of withstanding third-party oversight. The foundation of the NRMCA Green-Star program was created in collaboration with the Environmental Protection Agency's Green Highways Partnership and the 10 Guiding Principles of Environmental Stewardship.

Walking the Walk - We are good stewards in the communities we work in.

We are currently working towards having a Green Star rating for all our ready-mixed plants in the near future. This commitment requires the cooperation of our entire team. It is a continuous project and has required us to do things differently. We now follow NRMCA's 10 Guiding Principles of Environmental Stewardship as we continue our sustainability commitment now and into the future.
